Portable Compressor Refrigerators & Freezers
| How do I turn the fridge on? | The thermostat a 0 position which is OFF, turning it away from this position will put the fridge in operational mode. |
| How do I control the temperature of my CR (cabinet) fridge freezer? |
The thermostat has 7 positions where 1 is the warmest and 7 is the coldest. For normal running, the thermostat should be set to the mid position. |
| How do I control the temperature of my CB (top loading) fridge box? |
The thermostat arrow pointing upwards is OFF. Turning it clockwise will switch it on at its warmest setting, turning it clockwise to its furthest extent will put the unit at its lowest setting. |
| There is a heavy build-up of ice in the fridge, why is this? |
The fridge could be turned up higher than needed on the thermostat. Or items you have placed in the fridge have high moisture content or condensation on them which has clung to the evaporator plate. Defrost the fridge. |
| How do I clean my fridge? | Use a soft damp cloth and clean water. Spillages and stains should be cleaned immediately to prevent permanent staining. Dry with a soft cloth after cleaning. |
| Can I clean the removable interior parts in a dishwasher? |
No. The shelves etc are not dishwasher safe and will be damaged. |
| Does the light go off in my fridge when the door is closed? |
Yes. |
| Can I run my compressor fridge from LPG? |
No, it operates on DC electricity only. |
| Can I run my compressor fridge from mains electricity? |
Yes, but only through a switched power supply eg Dometic’s MPS35 or EPS100 |
| Can I run my fridge from a solar panel? |
Not directly, but a solar panel connected to the battery charging system will increase the running time between battery charges. A large enough solar panel will, in the right weather conditions, provide perpetual running. |
| What size solar panel does that need to be? |
A panel of 60w or more will be sufficient (depending on weather conditions and fridge usage) |
| With no solar panel installed, how long would my fridge run from a 110Ah leisure battery? |
It really depends on usage and ambient temperatures but, with a good condition battery, you should get 2-3 days. |
| Does my compressor fridge need servicing? |
No, these units are maintenance free. |
| If my fridge loses it’s refrigerant gas, is this repairable? |
Yes, but this can only be done by someone holding the appropriate FGAS qualifications. Please contact Dometic UK. |
| Can I use my fridge to store medicines? |
If you wish to cool medicines, please use an appropriate thermometer to help you manually regulate the fridge temperature to suit the medicine. |
| General tips | • Before placing your vehicle into storage or if you are using the vehicle for long periods, we recommend emptying the condensation pot located at the rear of the fridge. • Always ensure the fridge door is closed and locked before starting your journey. • Don’t over pack the freezer or fridge as this will reduce the air flow. • Be aware that frequent opening of the fridge will result in the fridge working harder and this in turn will reduce the running time between battery charges. • When placing your vehicle into storage we highly recommend making sure the fridge is clean and dry and that the door/s are placed into the vent position (refer to operation manual). • When defrosting, never forcibly remove ice or use any means to accelerate the defrosting e.g. heat source. |
| Trouble shooting | ||
| The significance of the red LED (CR fridges only) For operational faults it illuminates several times. The number of pulses depends on the type of fault. Each flash lasts for one quarter of a second. After the series of impulses a pause follows. The sequence for the fault is repeated every four seconds. |
||
| Number of flashes | Fault | Possible cause |
| 1. | Supply voltage | The supply voltage is outside of the set range |
| 2. | Excessive fan current | The fan loads the electronics unit with more than 1A |
| 3. | The motor doesn’t start | The rotor is jammed. The pressure difference in the cooling system is too high (>5 bar). |
| 4. | Speed too low | If the cooling system is overloaded, the minimum speed of the motor of 1850 RPM cannot be maintained. |
| 5. | Overheating of the electronics unit |
If the cooling system is loaded too heavily or the temperature is set too high, the electronics can overheat. |
| Interior temperature too low on thermostat setting “min” (CB and CR Range) |
||
| Fault | Possible cause | Solution |
| Compressor runs constantly |
Faulty thermostat | Change the thermostat (refer to contacting Dometic section) |
| Compressor runs for a long time |
Large quantities of fresh food have been placed in the freezer compartment |
The compressor will stop once the food is frozen. |
| Compressor does not run (CB and CR Range where noted) |
||
| Fault | Possible cause | Solution |
| No voltage at the fridge terminals |
There is an interruption in the DC positive and negative supply to the fridge |
Check: • Power supply • Fuse • Isolator |
| The Green LED is on inside the fridge, but the Red LED is flashing once every four seconds. (CR Range only) |
The battery supply is low | Check: • Battery voltage • Poor contact (corrosion) • Loose cables |
| The compressor try’s to start but stops and the RED LED flashes 5 times every four seconds. (CR Range only) |
The Ambient temperature is too high or the vents are blocked |
Switch off the compressor until the ambient temperature has dropped below 40°C. Check vents are free from blockages |
